CLASSICFLOOR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Does Classicfloor help with insulation?
Yes! Timber floors are neither hot in summer nor cold in winter as natural timber has insulating properties that resist the transfer of heat, helping to keep a stable room temperature.
2. Do I need any special chemicals for cleaning Classicfloor?
No! Wood floors are the easiest floor to clean, requiring far less chemicals than other surfaces. Whenever necessary, the floor surface can also be cleaned with a well-rung damp mop or a special polish to remove stain, grease, shoe-tracks, etc. Never use traditional wax or steel-wool on your lacquer-finished timber floor.
3. Is the timber that Classicfloor is made of sustainable and environmentally friendly?
Yes! Classicfloor sales return more money back to the wood industry to support good forest management. Wood floors are a high-end use of forest products and can provide more profit, thereby ensuring the perpetuation of the forest.
4. Can I lay Classicfloor over underfloor heating systems?
No, some dealers would say yes, but the structure of the timber and sudden temperature rise and falls will cause too much movement that would cause problems for your home. The only product we know that will handle this underfloor heating is engineered flooring supplied by Heritage Timbers called Smartfloor and Armourfloor.
5. Can I install Classicfloor on top of concrete?
Yes! However, before installing flooring over any concrete, a moisture content of no more than 5.5% in the concrete slab is recommended. Once moisture is to the required percentage, a moisture barrier (seal) is to be applied. Then lay your floor.
6. Can I install Classicfloor in wet areas?
Classicfloor is suitable for wet areas as long as the floor has been suitably sealed (minimum coats of poly-urethane as per local council). Your floor will last as long as you take care of it. Wipe excess water up as any sitting water will penetrate holes in any protective membrane.
7. Can I repair any damage to Classicfloor?
Yes! Surface damage such as light scratches can be repaired with light sanding and a lacquer recoat. See the Floor Care at Maintenance Instructions at the back of the manual for more details.
8. Does Classicfloor need to be sanded or lacquered once it is installed?
All Classicfloors require a seal coat and 1-2 top coats. Most common is the sand and poly-urethane, but also certain oil treatments can be used. These require more processes and yearly upkeep.
9. Do I need to get a professional to install Classicfloor?
Yes! Like any solid wood flooring product, Classicfloor needs to be installed by a professional.
10. Are there any health benefits associated with using Classicfloor?
Yes! Solid wood flooring reduces dust mites which are a known cause of asthma; dirt, dust and pet hair are easily removed, maintaining a healthier living environment.
11. Will Classicfloor shrink?
Timber is a natural product. Its size varies with changes in moisture. As timber absorbs moisture to remain in equilibrium with its surrounding atmosphere, it expands. As it loses moisture, it shrinks. Flooring will always move slightly between boards as the ambient conditions of the surrounding environment change. So, to produce a successful timber floor, the timber needs to be installed at the correct moisture content, changes in the ambient conditions controlled and any movement accommodated.
